Anniversary
Party Ideas
Theme Party:
 | What was your wedding
theme? Incorporate elements of it into your anniversary celebration.
|
 | If you eloped to Las Vegas,
host a "casino night" party complete with personalized decks of cards at the
tables for guest to play, bingo games or a hired black jack dealer. Wrap
up gold foil coin candies for favors. Give each guest a lottery ticket
at night's end.
|
 | If wedding was in the
winter, accent the seasonal theme of your party with lit evergreen trees,
personalized ornament favors and sleigh rides.
|
 | Was your wedding by the
water? Treat guest to dinner and dancing at the yacht club or go on a
dinner cruise.
|
Down Memory Lane:
 | In your anniversary
invitations, include a sheet of paper for guests to write down their favorite
memories of your wedding day.
|
 | Ask guests to mail the
memories they've written back to you (or to the host of the party) and
assemble them in a scrapbook.
|
 | During the party, ask the
host to read from the book of memories. Share your own thoughts on the
memories with your guests.
|
Keepsakes and Mementos:
 | Bring out your wedding
mementos to be displayed during the party.
|
 | Have your wedding gown
cleaned and pressed: if it no longer fits you, perhaps a younger relative
would be willing to model it during the party. If not, rent a
dressmaker's form or mannequin to display the dress.
|
 | If your bridesmaids still
have the dresses they wore at your wedding, arrange to have them modeled or
displayed as well.
|
 | Wear an element of your
wedding attire at the party, and ask bridesmaids to do the same (your veil, a
hat, shoes, gloves, a piece of jewelry, etc...)
|
 | Frame wedding photos and
snapshots.
|
 | If there is a videotape of
your ceremony, have it played during the party.
|
 | Display your invitations,
programs, shower invitations, etc...
|
 | For fun, search out wedding
gifts you received but have been saving for "the future" and display as well.
|
Déjà Vu:
 | Recreate your wedding
details for a memory-filled party:
|
 | Bring a picture of your
wedding cake to a baker and ask to have a small replica of it made for your
party.
|
 | Have a florist make a
replica of your bouquet in silks for a lasting keepsake-of your anniversary.
|
 | Remember how you made your
getaway? Rent the same form of transportation (classic car, horse and
buggy, limousine, etc...) to provide rides during the party.
|
 | Hire a musician to play the
songs that were performed in your wedding; include romantic songs of the era.
|
 | Give the same kind of
favors you did at your wedding.
|
Vow Renewal:
 | Any anniversary year is the
perfect time to renew your vows and pledge your love to each other anew.
The ceremony may be held with a few as two people attending (The two of you)
or with your entire network of friends and extended family.
|
 | Make it meaningful by
incorporating the ceremonies you performed on your wedding day or by creating
new rituals that include your family.
|
 | Ask your wedding day
Officiant to perform the ceremony.
|
 | Invite your original
wedding party to be present, if they are able.
|
 | Wear your bridal garter,
wedding jewelry or some element of your wedding day to make ties to the past.
|
 | Have photographs taken that
mimic the poses of our wedding portraits for nostalgia.
|
The Way We Were:
 | Get together with friends
before the party to write down the customs, traditions, fashions and themes of
weddings during year you were married.
|
 | If you don't remember the
cost of your cake, meal, wedding dress, bouquet, etc... research approximate
wedding cost for your area.
|
 | Peruse the latest wedding
books and bridal magazines for today's trends, costs and fashions.
|
 | Assemble a presentation of
"then" and "now" costs, fashions, etc. Your guests will be amazed and
amused at how weddings have changed during the years!
