Anniversary Party Ideas

Theme Party:

bulletWhat was your wedding theme?  Incorporate elements of it into your anniversary celebration.

bulletIf you eloped to Las Vegas, host a "casino night" party complete with personalized decks of cards at the tables for guest to play, bingo games or a hired black jack dealer.  Wrap up gold foil coin candies for favors.  Give each guest a lottery ticket at night's end.

bulletIf wedding was in the winter, accent the seasonal theme of your party with lit evergreen trees, personalized ornament favors and sleigh rides.

bulletWas your wedding by the water?  Treat guest to dinner and dancing at the yacht club or go on a dinner cruise.

Down Memory Lane:

bulletIn your anniversary invitations, include a sheet of paper for guests to write down their favorite memories of your wedding day.

bulletAsk guests to mail the memories they've written back to you (or to the host of the party) and assemble them in a scrapbook.

bulletDuring the party, ask the host to read from the book of memories.  Share your own thoughts on the memories with your guests.

Keepsakes and Mementos:

bulletBring out your wedding mementos to be displayed during the party.

bulletHave your wedding gown cleaned and pressed: if it no longer fits you, perhaps a younger relative would be willing to model it during the party.  If not, rent a dressmaker's form or mannequin to display the dress.

bulletIf your bridesmaids still have the dresses they wore at your wedding, arrange to have them modeled or displayed as well.

bulletWear an element of your wedding attire at the party, and ask bridesmaids to do the same (your veil, a hat, shoes, gloves, a piece of jewelry, etc...)

bulletFrame wedding photos and snapshots.

bulletIf there is a videotape of your ceremony, have it played during the party.

bulletDisplay your invitations, programs, shower invitations, etc...

bulletFor fun, search out wedding gifts you received but have been saving for "the future" and display as well.

Déjà Vu:

bulletRecreate your wedding details for a memory-filled party:

bulletBring a picture of your wedding cake to a baker and ask to have a small replica of it made for your party.

bulletHave a florist make a replica of your bouquet in silks for a lasting keepsake-of your anniversary.

bulletRemember how you made your getaway?  Rent the same form of transportation (classic car, horse and buggy, limousine, etc...) to provide rides during the party.

bulletHire a musician to play the songs that were performed in your wedding; include romantic songs of the era.

bulletGive the same kind of favors you did at your wedding.

Vow Renewal:

bulletAny anniversary year is the perfect time to renew your vows and pledge your love to each other anew.  The ceremony may be held with a few as two people attending (The two of you) or with your entire network of friends and extended family.

bulletMake it meaningful by incorporating the ceremonies you performed on your wedding day or by creating new rituals that include your family.

bulletAsk your wedding day Officiant to perform the ceremony.

bulletInvite your original wedding party to be present, if they are able.

bulletWear your bridal garter, wedding jewelry or some element of your wedding day to make ties to the past.

bulletHave photographs taken that mimic the poses of our wedding portraits for nostalgia.

The Way We Were:

bulletGet together with friends before the party to write down the customs, traditions, fashions and themes of weddings during year you were married.

bulletIf you don't remember the cost of your cake, meal, wedding dress, bouquet, etc... research approximate wedding cost for your area.

bulletPeruse the latest wedding books and bridal magazines for today's trends, costs and fashions.

bulletAssemble a presentation of "then" and "now" costs, fashions, etc.  Your guests will be amazed and amused at how weddings have changed during the years!
